Your front windshield is laminated safety glass, so stones and projectiles cannot come through it. When damaged, the film “holds” the glass together. So, its glass with a vinyl in-between which prevents it from shattering. It is also heavier than normal glass. This glass is used on our manufactured aluminium doors and windows.

The glass in your side doors of your car is toughened, which gives it more strength from an impact, but if hit hard enough will shatter into little pieces like granular chunks in appearance. This is available in all thicknesses and is used for shower doors, panels, folding stacking doors and balustrades as it is lighter than safety glass. Also known as tempered glass.

Glass is referred to as “float” because during the manufacturing stage, the molten glass is added into a bath of molten tin, causing the glass to float freely.
